US President Biden announced on Wednesday a $3.3 billion investment by Microsoft to build an artificial intelligence (AI) datacenter in Racine, Wisconsin, according to a release.

"President Biden will announce a $3.3 billion investment by Microsoft to build a new artificial intelligence (AI) datacenter in Racine, creating 2,300 union construction jobs and 2,000 permanent jobs over time," the release stated.

Microsoft will also partner with Gateway Technical College to train 1,000 Wisconsinites for datacenter and STEM roles by 2030. It projects that it will employ up to 2,000 people in permanent roles at its Racine facility. It also plans to build an innovation center in southeast Wisconsin and collaborate with startup accelerator Gener8tor to train 1,000 business leaders to adopt AI in their operations

The datacenter will be built on the same site where Taiwanese electronics manufacturer Foxconn had committed $10 billion in 2017 to build a display panel manufacturing plant that would create 13,000 jobs. The project fell behind schedule and Microsoft purchased the site last year.
