Sunamganj is abuzz with anticipation as Bangabandhu Medical College and Hospital officially graces its skyline, a monumental achievement driven by the initiative of local visionary and Planning Minister MA Mannan MP.

This medical institution, now a reality, is celebrated as a dream come true for the community, signaling a transformative era for Sunamganj.

The inauguration last Sunday marked the commencement of operations for Bangabandhu Medical College and Hospital, Sunamganj, housed in an impressive eight-story academic building. Minister MA Mannan MP, a native of Sunamganj, expressed his emotional disbelief during the inauguration, stating, "I never thought I'd see a medical college here, but it's a reality today." This development is a game-changer for the people of Sunamganj, injecting a new layer of joy into their lives.

Approved by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in 2018 with a budget of Tk 11,787 million, the medical institution is rapidly taking shape. The eight-story academic building is already operational, while the 500-bed hospital building is nearing 60% completion. The ambitious goal is to complete the entire project by December 2024, paving the way for the hospital's operation in 2025.

Over the past three years, Sunamganj Bangabandhu Medical College has been admitting 50 students annually, initially operating from a temporary campus in Shantiganj Upazila. The recent move to the permanent eight-story campus represents a significant milestone. The medical college currently boasts 10 departments and a faculty of 20 teachers.

Dr. Manojit Majumdar, the Principal of Sunamganj Bangabandhu Medical College, expressed gratitude to the government and the local community, anticipating increased enrollment due to the new expansive and attractive campus. Project Manager Dr. Shams Uddin Ahmed revealed that 65% of the overall project has been completed, with the academic building reaching an impressive 95%, aiming for project completion by December 2024.

Inaugurating the teaching program at the permanent campus, MA Mannan MP highlighted the significance of this development, declaring, "Sunamganj is no longer neglected. It is now a development role model," while urging cooperation from the local community. This milestone marks a historic chapter for Sunamganj, promising a brighter future for the region and its residents.
