In a momentous event that marks a new chapter in tourism and development for the Chandpur district.  A stunning 1-kilometer scenic walkway along the picturesque banks of the Dakatiya river has been unveiled to the public.

The inauguration ceremony, presided over by Chandpur-5 Constituency Member of Parliament, Major (retd) Rafiqul Islam Bir Uttam, took place on Saturday. Major Rafiqul Islam Bir Uttam, gracing the occasion as the chief guest, emphasized that the primary aim of this construction is to establish an enchanting tourist hub along the riverbank.

This remarkable initiative serves dual purposes: safeguarding the riverbanks from long-term erosion and contributing to the generation of tourism-focused employment opportunities and socio-economic growth.

This newly opened walkway promises to be an oasis of tranquility and environmental responsibility, as it is exclusively reserved for pedestrians and devoid of engine-driven vehicles and smoke. To further elevate the visitor experience, an amusement park, a modern restaurant system, and an efficient parking system have been incorporated into the project. Adding to its allure, paddle boats are now available for tourists to explore the river's serene beauty, making this walkway a prime attraction in the entire Chandpur district.

Major Rafiqul Islam expressed his delight in providing comfortable seating arrangements for visitors along the walkway, offering a serene vantage point to soak in the breathtaking vistas of the Dakatiya river. The area also provides an excellent opportunity to witness the stunning beauty of sunrise and sunset, enhancing its appeal to nature enthusiasts.

The construction of this splendid scenic walkway required an investment of approximately Tk 49 crore.

The inauguration ceremony featured a special guest speech by the senior secretary of the Ministry of Shipping, Mustafa Kamal. The event was presided over by Commodore Arif Ahmed Mostafa, Chairman of the Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority (BIWTA).

It was attended by distinguished figures such as Kazi Shahadat, former President of Chandpur Press Club, Iqbal Patwari, Shaharasti Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Humayun Rashid, Shaharasti Upazila Parishad Chairman Nasrin Jahan Chowdhury, Haziganj Municipality Mayor ASM Mahbubul Alam Lipon, and Shaharasti Municipality Mayor Haji Md. Abdul Latif, among others.

The occasion drew a diverse audience, including government officials, public representatives, political activists, and professionals from various fields. The opening of this scenic walkway is set to invigorate Chandpur's tourism scene and contribute to the region's overall development.
