Awami League President and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has criticized BNP’s decision to boycott Indian products and raised questions about the effectiveness of BNP’s stance when the party leaders’ wives wear Indian Sarees.

When will BNP leaders burn their wives' Indian sarees in front of their party office? Only then will it be proven that they are truly committed to boycotting Indian products, she said.

The prime minister was speaking in a discussion arranged by the Awami League on Wednesday (27 March) afternoon.

Sheikh Hasina further challenged BNP leaders, questioning why they have not taken action against Indian sarees worn by their wives if they are truly against Indian goods.

I want to know how many Indian Sarees their (BNP leaders) wives own. Why they are not burning their sarees? All of you should ask them, she added.

Sheikh Hasina said she knew some BNP leaders’ wives who were involved in selling Indian saree when their husband was the minister.

The Awami League president also raised questions about Indian masala products and asked BNP leaders: We are importing onion, ginger and masala from India. Can they cook food without these Indian products?
