BSK Bangladesh, a Netherlands-Bangladesh joint venture, is going to set up a bag manufacturing factory in Cumilla EPZ by investing $6.14 million.
It will produce three million pieces of handbags, backpacks, travel bags, wallets, and trolley bags annually, a press release said on Wednesday.
The company will create job opportunities for 1,032 Bangladeshi nationals.

In the presence of Bangladesh Export Processing Zones Authority (BEPZA) Executive Chairman Major General Abul Kalam Mohammad Ziaur Rahman, an agreement in this regard was signed between the BEPZA and BSK at the BEPZA complex in the capital.

Member (Investment Promotion) of BEPZA Ali Reza Mazid and Chairman of BSK Jeroen Herms signed the agreement on behalf of their respective organisations.
Welcoming BSK, the executive chairman of BEPZA thanked its officials for choosing Cumilla EPZ as an investment destination.

He said BEPZA is the pioneer investment promotion agency of Bangladesh and has been successfully operating eight EPZs on only 934 hectares of land.
From this small amount of land, the authorities contribute to around 20 per cent of the country’s total exports, he added.

Major General Ziaur urged the investors to start the construction of the factory as soon as possible. He also requested them to invite their Dutch friends to invest more in Bangladesh.

Member (Finance) Md Ashraful Kabir, Executive Director (Admin) ANM Foyzul Haque, Executive Director (Investment Promotion) Md Tanvir Hossain, and Executive Director (Public Relations) ASM Anwar Parvez, along with First Secretary of Economic Affairs at the Dutch embassy in Dhaka Sara van Hoeve and Managing Director of BSK Balal Hossain, were present during the ceremony.

Bi Shaokai (Sophie), chairman of BSK Fashion Development Co Ltd, and Managing Director Joris Guisado were also present. BSK Fashion Development Co Ltd is a sister concern of BSK Bangladesh.
