Construction of houses for 75 families in Lama

Recently, the domestic NGO BRAC has helped the families affected by the severe floods of Swarankal in Lama upazila of Bandarban through the CFFER project. As part of the assistance, 75 families have been given cash with tools for house construction and 1800 families have been given 5500 taka in cash. The closing workshop was held on Monday (December 11) at 12 noon at the Lama Upazila Parishad hall.

New Lama Upazila Executive Officer Shantanu Kumar Das was present as the chief guest at the closing workshop of the project “Chittagong Floods Emergency Response Project” funded by BRAC UK (The Askehave Climate Foundation) under the Disaster Risk Management Program of BRAC.

BRAC Senior Project Manager Md. Farhad Hossain presided over the event as guests, Lama Municipality Mayor Md. Zahirul Islam, Assistant Commissioner (Land) SM Rahatul Islam, Vice Chairman Md. Zaheed Uddin, Milki Rani Dash, BRAC District Coordinator Md. Arif Hossain, Project Manager Md Mahabub Ul Alam, BRAC Lama Upazila Manager Md Shaheen Islam, Lama Upazila Coordinator Md Nazrul Islam Bulbul and others. BRAC District Coordinator Md. Arif Hossain conducted the final workshop highlighting the overall project implementation issues, Project Manager Md. Mahabub Ul Alam spoke.

New Lama Upazila Executive Officer Shantanu Kumar Dash said that 75 families of Lama Upazila received houses and 1800 families received cash through the three-month 'Chittagong Floods Emergency Response Project' (CFFER) after the flood. This is an excellent job. I hope that in the future, NGO BRAC will be with the common people in this way. While speaking at the same time, Lama Municipality Mayor Md. Zahirul Islam thanked BRAC for its humanitarian work. Three of the beneficiaries, who received houses, toilets and cash, spoke at the event. They appreciated BRAC's CFFER project and requested to come up with such public welfare projects in future.

In the closing speech, BRAC senior project manager Md. Farhad Hossain said that the significant activities of the project are financial assistance to ensure food supply to the poor families affected by the floods in 2023, providing materials for repairing the houses of the poor families affected by the floods and providing financial support for the wages of house repairs. which we did Project Duration: 3 months (16 September 2023 to 15 December 2023). We have already completed our project work. The people of Lama upazila were with us. We are grateful to them. As part of the project assistance, 75 families were given cash with tools for building houses and 1800 families received 5 thousand 500 taka in cash.
