In a significant agricultural development, the ambitious target of Boro Plantation has been successfully achieved across 17,450 hectares of land spanning 18 Unions and 1 Municipality in Cox's Bazar Chakria. Nearly thousands of farming families are currently engaged in various auxiliary activities, including land maintenance, following the completion of the plantation.

The Agriculture Department of Chakaria Upazila has confirmed that sub-assistant agricultural officers stationed at each block are actively assisting farmers with guidance and suggestions to ensure the successful cultivation of Boro. Marginal farmers have received essential supplies such as fertilizers and seeds as incentives to support their agricultural endeavors.

Furthermore, reports indicate that Boro paddy seedlings have been meticulously planted in remote areas of two upazilas, marking a significant milestone in the region's agricultural calendar. Notably, the cultivation of Boro plantations and other vegetables is thriving, facilitated by the supply of fresh water from the Matamuhuri River.

Rubber dams constructed by the Water Development Board at strategic points along the river have enabled the retention of fresh water, vital for irrigation purposes. This infrastructure development has bolstered agricultural activities, ensuring favorable conditions for crop growth despite geographical challenges.

Various rice varieties including Bri-Dhan 28, Bri-Dhan 58, Bri-Dhan 67, Bri-Dhan 74, Bri-Dhan 88, 89, 92, 99, Bangabandhu-100, Veena-10, and hybrid varieties from Hira, Syngenta, and ACI Brac have been cultivated across the region. The preference for Ufsi variety due to its high yield remains prominent among farmers.

Local farmers have shared their experiences, with Saleh Ahmad from East Brindavankhil village highlighting the challenges of irrigation in hilly terrain, necessitating the use of irrigation tube wells. Despite these challenges, farmers like Muhammad Ali Ahmed from Dhemusia express satisfaction with the availability of fresh water from the Matamuhuri river, facilitating successful Boro cultivation.

Chakaria Upazila Agriculture Officer, SM Nasim Hossain, expressed optimism, stating that the target of Boro plantation has been met through meticulous planning and support from the agriculture department. With continued supervision and incentives, authorities are confident of sustaining agricultural success in the region.
