3 die as pick-up van hits 2 motorcycles in Sylhet

Three people died and four others were injured after a pickup van rammed into two motorcycles on the Sylhet-Tamabil highway in Jaintapur upazila of Sylhet on Tuesday (5 March) night.

The deceased were identified as Shihab, 22, son of Alauddin, Foysal Reza, 19, son of Liakat Ali, and Pavel, 18, son of businessman Abdul Hannan. All of them were residents of Jaintapur upazila.

The injured were taken to Jaintapur Upazila Health Complex, where the doctors declared two of them dead.

Another deceased, Pavel, died around 1:30 am early Wednesday after he was transferred to Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College.

The bodies of the deceased have been handed over to their relatives after the post-mortem, said Tajul Islam, officer-in-charge of Jaintapur Model Police Station.

The accident occurred around 9:45 pm in front of Jaflong Valley Boarding School when the Mokampunji-bound pickup van hit the two motorcycles.

Vehicular movement on the Sylhet-Tamabil road remained suspended for an hour as local people put up barricades protesting the accident.
