Bus fire burns scores of passengers at Mawa Expressway

At least a dozen of bus passenger suffered burn injuries at the Bangabandhu Expressway in Dhaka-Mawa Highway.

The incident happened at 2:30 pm on Thursday (9 March) afternoon at the Gholghar Natun Bus-stand area.

Quoted the bus passengers and witnesses, Srinagar Fire Service Station’s commander Mahfuz Riven said, ‘A sudden fire spread rapidly all over the bus. The panic stricken passengers were rushed to get out of it. A few of them injured during the rush.’

The fire service official also said, ‘The number of injury and burnt were less as the bus was not packed at that time.’

He said, ‘The fire service personnel doused the blaze with half an hour efforts.’

However, he said that the cause of the fire yet to know. An investigation has started.

Witnesses informed, a bus of Prochesta Paribahan from Dhaka towards Mawa has crossed Padma Bridge. At that time a fire was seen beneath the engine bonnet. Passengers asked the driver to halt it. However, he denied. After a bang fire spread fast inside the coach at once.
