Police seized a sack of rice containing Tk 38 lakh while conducting regular checking on a Dhaka-bound bus at Teesta Toll Plaza in Lalmonirhat on Sunday (28 May). One person was arrested in this connection for interrogation.
Lalmonirhat Sadar Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Ershadul Alam said that they were checking a suspicious sack of rice at the toll plaza as part of a regular inspection on the Dhaka-bound Nabil Paribahan bus which left from Kurigram.
“We found the suspicious sack and found the money when we opened it. We seized Tk 38 lakh from inside the sack. Meanwhile, the owner of the suspicious sack was arrested.”
But details of the perpetrator could not be known immediately, the OC added.
However, the arrestee claimed that he was carrying the money to Dhaka for his uncle’s construction work. The matter will be investigated further and action will be taken accordingly, police said.
