The water levels of the Jamuna and Brahmaputra rivers continue to rise due to hill slopes collapsing from upstream and heavy rainfall. The flood situation in Jamalpur district has further deteriorated. In Islampur of the district, approximately 5,000 people residing in the lower areas of 8 unions have become trapped in floodwater.

Over the last 24 hours until Friday, the water level of the Jamuna River at the Bahadurabad ghat point has increased significantly, surpassing the danger level by 19 cm. As the water level continues to rise, several areas are affected, including Islampur municipal area, the western part of the upazila, which includes Islampur Sadar, Noarpara, Sapdhari, Chinaduli, Belgacha, Kulkandi, Patrshi, and 8 unions.

This flooding has submerged approximately 1,500 hectares of saplings, paddy fields, and various crops. Seedbeds have also been inundated, and around 5,000 people in these flood-affected areas are stranded in the floodwaters. There is a scarcity of dry food, clean water, and cattle feed.

Mehedi Hasan Titu, the Upazila Project Implementation Officer, has reported that 25 tons of relief rice have been allocated for distribution to the 8 affected unions in the upazila, and the distribution process is currently underway. Additionally, 125 shelters have been prepared in the upazila to provide refuge to those affected by the floods.

Furthermore, water levels are rising in the lower areas of Motherganj, Melandah, Dewanganj, and Sarishabari upazilas.
