Tearful final farewell to celebrated singer Khalid

The people of Gopalganj bid a tearful final farewell to the celebrated singer of many evergreen songs, Khalid. Following the second janaza after the Zohr prayers on Tuesday, Khalid was laid to rest beside the graves of his parents at the old graveyard of Gopalganj town.

Relatives as well as fans from different nearby areas attended his janaza in Gopalganj to bid farewell to the beloved artiste. Renowned lyricist Prince Mahmud rushed from Dhaka to bid farewell to Khalid.

Earlier, the first janaza of the singer of 'Jodi Himaloy Hoye Dukhkho Ase' was performed at the Green Road Jame Mosque in Dhaka. People from all walks of life, including artistes and cultural personalities, took part in the janaza held at 11 pm on Monday.

Khalid suffered a heart attack at his Green Road residence on Monday evening. He was then rushed to Comfort Hospital on Green Road. After being taken to the hospital, doctors pronounced Khalid dead at 7:30 pm It was reported that he had passed away even before being taken to the hospital.

Hailing from Gopalganj, the singer embarked on his musical journey in 1981, assuming the role of vocalist for the band Chime, which he joined in 1983.

Khalid's legacy is marked by his iconic songs such as ‘Shorolotar Protima’, ‘Himaloy’, ‘Kono Karonei’, and ‘Tumi Nei Tai’, among numerous other hits spanning the 90s and 2000s. Noteworthy albums produced with his band Chime include the eponymous ‘Chime’, ‘Nari’, ‘Jonmo’, and ‘Kirtonkhola’.

In the past decade, Khalid had resided in the United States of America, where he continued to enchant audiences with his musical performances.

Khalid is survived by his wife and son, who reside in the USA.
